Make a diagram of your layout

The first thing you should do before you buy anything or add or replace any of your pieces, is create a diagram of your room layout and take measurements. Where are the windows? What's the best place for the bed? Is there a door in the way or a closet that you need to have access to? How high is the ceiling? Before you make any major design decisions you will need all of this information. And take a photo or two. If you are going shopping you will be glad that you have photos and measurements with you.

What's your true style?

Before you buy anything determine your style. Spend a little time on line, visit sites like Pinterest, etc. to find your inspiration. What does the rest of your home look like? What are your main colors? What are your accent colors? Will you mix in a pattern or two? Is this a seasonal makeover? Think through all of these things and create a design binder with clips and swatches and pictures etc., and start buying what you need. Is there anything you can DIY? If you are a crafter there may be a few things you can make yourself to keep your cost low. With a little planning, your bedroom can be everything you want it to be!
